Bart Lootsma

Bart Lootsma is a historian, theoretician, critic and curator in the fields of architecture, design and the visual arts. He is a mentor at the Mentoring Program for the Arts at the Academy of Arts in Vienna. He was a Professor for Architectural Theory at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Professor for Architectural Theory at the University of Innsbruck, Guest Professor at the University of Luxemburg, the Academy of Visual Arts in Vienna, the Academy of Visual Arts in Nürnberg, the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam/Rotterdam, Head of Scientific Research at the ETH Zürich/Studio Basel, and Head of the Department of 3D-Design at the Academy of Arts in Arnhem.

Lootsma published numerous articles and several books. He was an editor of among others Forum, de Architect, ARCHIS, l’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, Daidalos and GAM. His book ‘SuperDutch’ was published by Thames & Hudson, Princeton Architectural Press, DVA and SUN in the year 2000. ’Reality Bytes’, a selection of his essays, was published by Birkhäuser in 2015. Bart Lootsma curated among others ArchiLab 2004 in Orléans, Linz Status Quo, the Montenegrin Pavillion at the 2016 Venice Biennale and Radical Austria, Everything is Architecture, for the Design museum Den Bosch in 2021.

Bart Lootsma was a member of numerous governmental and semi-governmental committees. He was a member of the advisory board of the IBA Vienna New Social Housing and is board member of Europan Austria.
